THe messages we got from the stations were quite intriguing, in particular the warning that the core stabilizer might not be able to take the strain, and people were discussing where to flee then.
All good, and my thanks to the 'scientists' sending out the messages. Helped create quite the mood.
Problem is: First off, well, I, as everybody else, were struggling with keeping the game even running at the time. EVE looks somewhat less amazing when viewed through 15-bit graphics, in a vain attempt to run more than 5 fps. Moreover, and this is probably the most crippling part, game interference appeared to be at an all-time high. I had an Apocalypse ship stuck on me for the entire time, even though he was, by my scanner, reported to be 200K away from me. The point on modules, profusely not working, it's quite correct. Reloading took 45 secounds per module to even update, and targetting was nigh impossible.
Yet, the moods were good, the tension of knowing there appeared to be player pirates at the gates made it all the more tense, as we tried creating a squad to secure the gates. And then disaster struck. My corpmate (whom you are referring to as the podded player, btw ;) warped to one of the moons, and havoc ensued. Withing a heartbeat she appeared to be targetted (the sounds of target systems locking is easily recognizable), and started taking insane amount of damage - from noone. A firestorm of Cataclysms rained on her, yet the screenshots she took (I admire the level-headedness of that!) showed that nobody was there!
While at the point: Lag still resulted in her shield booster refusing to active, likewise the shield hardener that might have saved her. And i'ts hard to warp away from something that is not there.
She crashed, assumably due to the strain the server was under (aforementioned 5 fps weren't just my graphics card/CPU not being able to handle it), and when she logged back on, 30 minutes later...As you mentioned: She was in a pod. At the same place. Gamelogs were - and are at current time - non-existant for the incident. Whatever happened, apparantly didn't happen. This reality dysfunction left her with a character with 0 skillpoints. Quite the less-than-pleasant experience, considering she's played since August.
Now: All in all...my thoughts go out to the guy I saw when I left the system, sitting in a pod, net to his cargo container, which I was told merely held the sorry remains of his ship...Ammo.
Oh yes: As my corpmate's Dominix was obviously destroyed: How come, the only thing left in the cargo container next to it were all her drones? Makes no sense howsoever, whatsoever.
It's sad to see that an even, that was so adrenaline-pounding, turns into a sour lagfest.
Better luck on next event, this could've been the best...If only the servers could have handled it.
(65 seconds quasi-real locktime is NOT playable. Sorry.)
